Last weekend’s JapShow Finale 2006 saw a crowd of thousands attend to watch the Pro Shootout,
take part in the RWYB, and see the many stands and show cars that had been set up at the Santa Pod Raceway.
CPL Racing and
THOR Racing (distributors of Virtual Racer) were both in attendance and had several
of their cars competing in the Pro Shootout.
CPL competed in the front wheel drive class with three cars driven by Guy Chamberlain,
Peter Cattell and Stuart Anderson. Two of the cars were kindly stickered by
CPL with Virtual Racer logos!
Guy was hoping to better the current record of 11.39s @ 129mph to regain the record as
fastest fwd car in Europe. With the changes he had made to his engine and gearbox the plan
was to break into the 10s! Using the latest data from the CPL dyno,
Virtual Racer predicted that 10.80secs was possible. In the end, it wasn’t to be.
With a drive shaft failure and conditions that meant Guy couldn’t achieve his
normal sub 1.8secs 60ft, he finished the weekend with a quickest time of 11.7s @ 132mph.
It’s clear from his terminal speeds though, that once the starts are back to normal then
10s really should be possible.

The other good news was that the another CPL car, driven by Peter Cattell,
broke the record for fastest supercharged front wheel drive car in Europe,
by running an 12.6s @ 110mph on his way to the Pro Shootout final.
Peter ran consistently in the 12.6s and 12.7s all day and eventually faced Guy in the final.
Congratulations to Peter for setting a PB and taking the record;
and to Guy for winning the overall competition.
